You Get What You Need
Our Au Pair, Heather, was at an ice cream shop with her friends when she came across this sign.
I love this. I love whoever put it up and I wish I could see all of the other tags that were on it. I don’t know what other things might have been there. Perhaps wisdom? Love? Friendship? Inspiration? Hugs? Chocolate? All good things, I’m sure.
But… you know that song ”You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by The Rolling Stones? Let me sing it for you, because I have an annoying habit of doing that too much.
You can’t always get what you want,
You can’t always get what you want,
But if if you try sometimes,
You just might find
You get what you need.
I think I often have trouble figuring out what it is I need. As a matter of fact, if I had seen this sign up at a store, I probably would have gone to the Kinko’s next door, made copies and then put them back up on the wall so nobody had to choose.
How can I be trusted to tell myself what I need? I don’t even know what I WANT for breakfast. And I could use a little of all of those things sprinkled on generously in my life.
So I think that when we stumble on those things in life that we needed, but didn’t even know we needed – like this little sign, which gave me a little hug that I didn’t know I needed, we need to share it.
And maybe by sharing it, we can all find what we need.
Namaste,
Kiran

That’s just fabulous!
I need my cuddles from my boys.
I want more cuddles with my boys.
I think I’m just going to spend a day cuddling.

That is so funny. The day you spend the day just cuddling is going to be a quiet day on the internets

I love the idea of this sign. How cute!! I, like you, am never quite sure if what I am getting is what I am needing. Great post.

Very thoughtful! Loved it. I’d add Smiles to it, don’t see too many these days. Few, yes – more would be nice

Love that sign. I also love all your music references. I hear the songs playing in my head for a while after reading your posts.

I made one of these signs for my girls a few months ago – a big hit! Thanks for the reminder to do it again. I love the public, random nature of the one your au pair found. Happy to be reminded of all the good in people. Hugs all around!

This reminds me of when I did something like this at work one time.
I had put up a post it note on a bathroom mirror that said ” you are beautiful.”
I thought I was being nice on a day that everyone needed a morale boost… and I got in trouble for it.
Go figure…
For me most of the time I give to the universe and the universe ends up returning the favor in some way.
In that last case, turns our the universe told me I did not need that job in my life.
